June 29, 2007 -- AnthroCon Break!

We're taking a two-week break for AnthroCon, and to write up some more scripts. The strip will be back on July 16th with the Big Infiltration Sequence!

Meanwhile, Sue has drawn some new NeverNever strips, so that will be starting up again next week! Woohoo!

June 27, 2007 -- Mammallamadevil Sez...

Good news! The Kitten Kaboodle shirt is on its way to Gneech's front porch and will be premiering at Anthrocon July 6th-8th. We will also have new-to-AC NeverNever and Doemain shirts and books, CarpeDiem shirts and comics (The Internet Broke My Brain Again!) and some other snarky stuff. If you didn't get your LEONA or Kiss the Geek shirt last year, we have a few of those left as well! If you're not able to attend and raid my candy dish, we will be putting the Kitten Kaboodle shirt online on July 10th when I return to California.

For those in Canada, Happy Canada Day, and for those in the US, Happy 4th of July! -MLD

May 4, 2007 -- Califur! Cape May Furmeet! Egad!

This weekend, Mammallamadevil will be off to Califur! She says:

Mammallamadevil is hitting the road again with bags filled with Califur goodness! Come on by and say hello, have some candy, and we have reprinted the Internet Broke my Brain shirts! Loller-wear, ISO, Doemain, Gene Catlow and Kevin and Kell books are just the highlights. Thomas K Dye will be at the table with Newshound books Saturday and Sunday as well. Also, when I recover, look for some additions to the MerchandiseMaven site!

Then on the 19th and 20th, I'll be Guest of Honor (W00t) at the Cape May Furmeet in Cape May, New Jersey! If you're in the area, check it out! You can't beat a meet on a train!

February 13, 2007 -- Open Call for Guest Art!

In case you haven't heard, Mrs. Gneech and I are buying a house, and will be moving in March, so Suburban Jungle is going to go on a three-week break while that's going on, and I'm putting out an open call for guest art to run during that time! E-mail it directly to me at thegneech@gmail.com, including your name and the URL of your site if you'd like a plug. Your best bet of getting it actually posted is to get it to me by the end of February, since I don't know exactly what my internet access will be after March 1st.

February 1, 2007 -- Suburban Jungle Turns Eight Today!

No, there isn't any commemorative art. Sorry! Was too busy drawing more strips. ;)

January 15, 2007 -- ROOM PARTY!

Mammallamadevil sez...

Yes, we're ON! The 3rd Annual Suburban Jungle Room Party....

TIME: 8ish pm Pacific Standard Time

DATE: Friday January 19th, 2007

WHERE: Doubletree Hotel, San Jose, CA, rm 249

We will be verifying again with the Doubletree/FC staff. For those on the party floor, it's pretty darn close to the elevator! If you've never met the Gneech, now's the time to do so...(grin)

Provided will be some Tony and Alba's Pizza (probably only 3 or 4 unlike the 6 I've bought in the past) and some sandwich fixin's from Togo's (thanks to Vinci for the input!) and various drinks/snacks.

How can YOU HELP????

Please bring your favorite dessert -- although Oreos should be in rampant supply. The chocolate I have will be for the table...(grin)....

We will also be doing a raffle around 9:30 pm of various t-shirts and whatever else we can scrounge up in the room of doom. (Frosty, thanks again for Puss in Boots last year!) We will take donations of any raffle swag in good taste. If you have a plushie you'd like to go elsewhere? We'll raffle it off for you and you'll know it went to a good home! Bring any raffable items by table 68 on Friday, or bring it before 9:30!

A few notes:

  • NO alcohol/adult beverages will be served. Don't expect any please.
  • Please also conduct yourself with good taste and decorum although I do have to say that has not been an issue for the past two parties.
  • HAVE FUN! This con is going to be about having fun. Period....

Feel free to respond here if questions (or heck, if I forgot anything) or email me at kerry@surfari.net if you'd like a private repsonse.

Thank you for your support of Gneech.comics!

January 13, 2007 -- Richard Wyatt Takes On the Colorist Duties for NeverNever

Those of you who follow NeverNever may have noticed that Richard Wyatt, former guest colorist for SJ, has been doing the color over there for the past several weeks. Some time ago, Hikaru came to the conclusion that his schedule didn't allow him to do the color for both strips at the quality he would prefer, so after Richard's stint as the guest colorist on SJ, I asked him to give NN a try. He's been doing such a good job that Sue and I have invited him to stay on permanently, and he's agreed, so welcome aboard (officially) Richard! And big thanks to Hikaru for all the great work to date!

December 22, 2006 -- Happy Whatever Day!

We're taking a little holiday break here and I hope you all have a great one. Suburban Jungle returns January 1, 2007! See you then!

November 21st, 2006 -- SJ Celebrity Chat Transcript Up!

The chat log is up! I had to assemble it from two different sources -- specifically Mammallamadevil and Jenifur Charne. So don't be surprised when it suddenly changes format in the middle!

Thanksgiving Sketch Friday

The story will take a small break as I will be busy for Thanksgiving. But I hope to at least run a sketch on Friday, so stay tuned!

November 9th, 2006 -- SJ Celebrity Chat This Sunday!

This coming Sunday, November 12th, we're going to have one of our famous SJ Celebrity Chats, this time featuring (by popular demand, or at least highest total votes) Leonard Lion, Tiffany Tiger, and Leona Lioness! In an effort to be a bit more Europe-friendly this time around (hey, we've got lots of readers in the UK and Germany), we're going to hold the chat from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. EST, which would put it at 8:00 p.m. in London, 9:00 p.m. in Berlin, 12:00 noon in Los Angeles, and 6:00 a.m. in Brisbane -- sorry, Aussies! We'll have coffee by the bucket for ya! (Don't know what time it is for you? Here's a handy converter! Put in 3:00 p.m. in America/New York, then fine some place in your own time zone to convert. Easy peasy!)

As always, you'll be able to use the Java client or use your own IRC client. So c'mon over, Sunday at 3:00!

November 3rd, 2006 -- Welcome, Guest Colorist Richard Wyatt!

Hikaru is taking November off to try his hand at NaNoWriMo, so for November we've got a guest colorist in the form of Richard Wyatt, creator of Dansk Folly. Check out his work and then send him a note to tell him how awesome he is!

Thanks again, dude!

September 7th, 2006 -- Back From Dragon*Con!

I had a great time hanging out with Mammallamadevil, Bill Holbrook, Dave Allen et al., on top of all the usual coolness that is Dragon*Con. I also got to meet and shake hands with Phil Foglio, which was a big kick for me. :)

Welcome New Readers!

If you're new to SJ, either from taking my card at Dragon*Con, seeing the various ads floating around, or you just wandered in, welcome aboard! If you'd like to get an idea of what's going on, you can read the About SJ Page (which could use a little updating, I realize), or maybe just jump right in from the beginning! We're glad you're here, and hope you love reading it as much as we love bringing it to you!

If you enjoy SJ, like fantasy comics, or are just looking for a new webcomic to check out, you might also want to take a look at my other strip, NeverNever, the story of the faeries at war with humanity, and of the humans who just don't notice. NN boasts artwork by the amazing Susan "Sue Deer" Rankin (who also creates the adorable A Doemain of Our Own) -- please take a look and enjoy!

September 4th, 2006 -- We're Back!

Well I'd like to say that it was a restful summer, but that would be a big, fat lie. So instead I'll just say we're back, and back to M-W-F, starting today! We're not going to jump right back into the Yin storyline, 'cause it's kinda been going forever and some of the rest of the cast needs a little attention! But fear not, we'll pick it up again before too long. Meanwhile, let's see what Tiff, Leonard, Dover, Comfort, Leona et al. are up to, shall we?

September 20th, 2006 -- Schmoozin' With Leona

I've been getting a lot of nice feedback about the current storyline with Louis and Leona, so I just want to reassure everybody that it's going to continue on Friday, I just got hit by a seminar for work that wiped me out Monday night, knocking me off my schedule. So today there's a Bad Pickup Line Theatre to fill in the gap, and the storyline continues Friday. :)

August 21, 2006 -- Two Weeks Off, Then Back to M-W-F!

Due to schedule crunches, Suburban Jungle is going to take the next two weeks off. But the good news is, on Monday, September 4th, we're going to be returning to the 3x/week schedule of M-W-F! So join us then!

Meanwhile, keep reading NeverNever on Tuesdays and Thursdays!

Help a Cartoonist!

David Hopkins, creator of Jack is having a difficult time with some very high hospital bills and medical troubles. So I'm asking anyone and everyone who's willing to lend a hand to head over to his site and drop a little something into his donation jar. It doesn't have to be anything big, but the more people do it, the more it mounts up. Thanks, everybody!

July 13, 2006 -- T-Shirts Gotta GO!

Kerry (a.k.a. Mammallamadevil, the Merchandise Maven) sez...

"I've been EXTREMELY busy counting inventory this week -- and there's a few t-shirts that need to GO! So, until the end of July, we're running a sale. 3 shirts for $45. That's it. Free shipping whereever USPS will take the package. This offer applies only to the shirts listed in the drop down menus. Please also note that includes the vintage "Tiffany: Too Sexy For My Shirt", "Tiffarella, Queen of Darkness", and two wonderful shirts from the talented Sue Deer ("Doematrix" and "Sue/Eric") which have been recently added. We also have Carpe Diem "I Have Issues" and "Radio GeekBoy" shirts for sale as well.
"Once the TooSexy, Tiffarella, Doematrix, Sue/Eric shirts are gone, THEY'RE GONE. So don't miss out!
Also, the hit of Anthrocon 2006 -- The Internet Broke my Brain shirts -- are, well, ALMOST here. My supplier has said that they'll have shirts for me on Monday, so I'm putting it on the website. We do have small and large sizes available for immediate shipping.
Speaking of suppliers, our dyesub supplier had some ink issues, so we have some very psychedelic LEONA (ask Frosty and Loxley -- they're BRIGHT), and Proud to be Furry shirts. We are not going to put them up on the website, but if you are interested in one, email me at kerry@surfari.net and I'll send you a picture and a price.
Don't forget also that Vince Suzukawa's ISO #1 and ISO #2 are still available!
Thank you for your support!

July 4, 2006 -- NeverNever Restarts Today!

Take a look! You'll be glad you did!

June 15, 2006 -- NeverNever Rises Again!

In case you haven't heard, NeverNever, the little webcomic that could, is coming back to life -- again -- with Susan "Sue Deer" Rankin as the artist and Keith "Hikaru" Dickinson providing the color!

Mere words cannot describe how happy this makes me.

May 15, 2006 -- Schedule Change

Starting next week (May 22), Suburban Jungle will be shifting to a two-day schedule (Tuesdays and Thursdays) for the summer. The main reason for this is so I can concentrate on a largish comic project that I hope to debut in July -- but until it's ready I don't want to jinx it so I can't make a formal announcement yet. Suffice to say it's something that fans have been asking me to do for some time, so I hope they will be pleased with the result!

Plus, longtime readers will know how spotty my artistic output gets in summer anyway. ;) Might as well make the best of it!

May 5, 2006 -- Califur!

Mammallamadevil sez...

I am getting up at the crack of dawn today and lugging over 100 lbs of Suburban Jungle/MerchandiseMaven stuff to CALIFUR! For the first time at ANY con is Susan Rankin's A Doemain of Our Own! Thomas K. Dye of Newshounds will be doing sketches etc. on Saturday/Sunday, along with signing some of his books. Also, we will be having the Gene Catlow CD, the new and improved i.s.o. #1 by Vince Suzukawa and Carpe Diem shirts. The candy dish is also packed, so please stop by!

Well, you heard her! Don't disappoint da llama, or she'll get after you with the hockey stick!

April 26, 2006 -- CMFM Canceled

As you may know, I was scheduled to be Guest of Honor for the Cape May Furmeet this year. Unfortunately, the meet's organizer (LionkingCMSL) has had to cancel the meet this year. So I will instead be attending Balticon May 27th and 28th instead. If you're going to be there, keep an eye out for a goofy-looking red-haired dude in a grey fedora. That'll be me! Stop and say hello!

April 7, 2006 -- April Foolishness!

With her day job, preparing for conventions, the USPS configurator on Merchandise Maven being unpredictable, and nonstop rain in Northern California, Mammallamadevil has finally lost it. The April Madness sale hath begun! Until April 22nd, no domestic shipping charges for anything MerchandiseMaven oriented (international shipping charges still apply, but if you buy enough stuff she'll negotiate). Vince Suzukawa's new project, ISO Comic #1, if you haven't heard, is for sale NOW. Also, we have PLENTY of buttons, prints (including the snazzy VJ-day print) and Carpe Diem stuff!

On another note, Sue Deer's awesome comic Doemain of our Own is now available in print! Go put a smile on Sue's face and buy a copy -- and tell 'em The Gneech sent ya! ;)

March 29, 2006 -- Blargh :P

Food poisoning is not fun, brothers and sisters. Today's strip almost wasn't, 'cause I spent most of Sunday and all of Monday in pretty bad shape. But I've bounced back and hopefully things will be smooth sailing now. Alas, I have no other real news, except that sometime in the next couple of weeks, assuming nothing else comes flying at me, I hope to have a new t-shirt design ready for all you Leona fans! Meanwhile, we continue the mysterious case of the abducted panda!

February 15, 2006 -- Making History! (Bonus Artwork)

The theme for this year's AnthroCon is "Making History" -- to that end, I've drawn this piece for submission into the conbook. I'll probably give the original to my parents, since my dad served in the Pacific in WW2, but I might sell prints of it. Haven't decided yet. What do you folks out there think?

OHNOROBOT Breaks 200 Transcriptions

The Suburban Jungle OHNOROBOT Search Page has over 200 strips transcribed! I gotta say, I'm pretty jazzed about that. Thanks, everybody! By all means, keep up the good work! ;)

February 7, 2006 -- OHNOROBOT!

If you frequent the SJ forum or the LiveJournal community, you've probably heard that there is now a Suburban Jungle Search Page courtesy of OHNOROBOT.com. As of my typing this, there are currently 173 episodes of Suburban Jungle transcribed, with more showing up almost every day. If you'd like to help out and have some time to kill, you can help transcribe the strip as a service to your fellow Jungloids!

Bonus Art: Making History!

You never know when inspiration will strike! Yesterday, I posted this sketch to the SJ LiveJournal community. It's a rough draft of a piece slated to be submitted to the AnthroCon conbook. Enjoy!

March 10, 2006 -- Last Day of the Scanner Fundraising Sale!

As of Thursday night, the Scanner Fundraising Sale combined with generous contributions to the Suburban Jungle Tip Jar had raised $513 -- and I gotta say, I'm gobsmacked about it. Thank you, everybody! :D

Today is the last day that SJ Merchandise has free shipping, so if you've been waiting to grab the VJ Day Kiss print (for example), now's the time to do it! And I promise, next week I'll shut up about it. ;)

February 24, 2006 -- NEW Print! February Scanner Fundraising Sale!

VJ Day KissOver the next several months, I'm going to be doing some new projects that require me to pick up a large-size (tabloid) scanner, so I'm investing in a good one that will hopefully last me for years! But, as you might guess, these puppies are expensive. (Yes, I know about the Mustek one for ~$200, but reviews have left me scared of that one. I'm angling for a MicroTek or Epson.) So to help raise some cash, Mammallamadevil is going to waive all shipping charges on Suburban Jungle merchandise between now and March 10th. Thanks, Kerry! You rule!

Just in time, too -- since so many people have asked for it, the Dover & Comfort VJ day kiss image I did for the AnthroCon conbook is now available as a print! It's $5.99 and shipping is FREE until March 10th! :)

For those who'd rather help directly, the Suburban Jungle Tip Jar is always an option. Either way, thanks to everybody who helps! I'll do my best to make sure the scanner is put to good use! ;)

February 10, 2006 -- Ask Stretch Ferret!

Stretch graces the LiveJournal community with Fedora Care For Dummies!

Hotmail Not So Hot

No matter how hard I try, I can't seem to rid this page of all the old links to my now-abandoned Hotmail account. So, for the record, if you've tried to send me e-mails via Hotmail and received no response, it's not 'cause I'm ignoring you -- it's 'cause I don't use the Hotmail addy any more. My official e-mail these days is thegneech@gmail.com, so if you're trying to reach me, please send stuff there!

No Viagra, psuedo-Rolex, or hot singles in my area need apply.

January 27, 2006 -- FC Party Pics!

The ever-awesome Makovette has posted a ton of pics from Further Confusion here, including the SJ Room Party, Iron Artist (which I did not win again, alas), the dealer room table and the fursuit parade. Much cool funness!

Commission Page Updated

Well, it's been a while, so I figured I'd better update the commission schedule again. If you've got something that's supposed to be on there and I haven't listed it, please e-mail me immediately! Thanks!

November 10, 2005 -- A Cool Thing!

ZeroMark announced in the forum yesterday that he'd gone and done a COOL THING! Specifically, he created a FRAPPR Map for Suburban Jungle! How nifty is that? Thanks, ZM!

November 4, 2005 -- Hikaru's Apartment Burns Down; He's Okay!

Keith "Hikaru" Dickinson, the colorist for Suburban Jungle, has suffered a fire which may have pretty much taken all his stuff, although he is alive and well. You can read about the details in his LiveJournal. This, naturally, will cause difficulties on the coloring front for him! If you'd like to help out with the "get a non-burned-up computer" fund, or even just to get new furniture, he has a Paypal button on his web site. Thanks!

January 1, 2006 -- Happy New Year, Everybody!

Strip starts up again on Monday, January 9th. See you soon!

December 13, 2005 -- Announcing the Suburban Jungle Holiday Chat Party!

This coming Friday, December 16th from 8 p.m. - 11 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (GMT-5, IIRC), we'll be holding the first ever Suburban Jungle Holiday Chat Party! Most of the cast will be there, or at least coming and going, and sometime around 9:30 we'll have a Trivia Contest hosted by Tiffany, with the winner and runner-up to receive their choice of a complete set of SJ buttons, a print, or a copy of any SJ book (or Childproof the Unicorns, for NeverNever fans).

As always, you'll be able to use the Java client or use your own IRC client. So come on! It's gonna be fun!

December 7, 2005 -- The NEW! IMPROVED! Merchandise Maven Site Is Up!

...and it's bursting at the seams with SJ schwag, including-but-not-limited-to buttons, prints, books, and t-shirts! C'mon and check it out!

November 15, 2005 -- Announcing: Badges!

On Thursday (November 17), I will offer FIVE custom conbadges up for sale in the forum, on a first-come, first-served basis. I'm announcing this now so that everybody has a chance to hear about it beforehand. No reservations, sorry! Check out this thread for details!

October 29, 2005 -- Celebrity Chat, TONIGHT!

It'll be tonight, at 8:30 Eastern time (or 0:30 on Sunday a.m. by Greenwich Mean Time, if I did my math right); the guests will be whoever among the cast decides to show up! Although Drezzer has confirmed he will be coming, and I've never known Leona to turn away attention when it's offered to her. You can use the Suburban Jungle Chat Room, or you can use your own IRC client, as described here. Hope to see you!

October 26, 2005 -- Celebrity Chat, October 29th

Well, yeah, the job has kinda been pounding me into mash, but I should be back into fairly decent form by Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. Eastern for a Suburban Jungle Celebrity Chat! We haven't yet determined who will be there, it could be Leona, Drezzer, Brody, or another member of the cast. Feel free to make a request!

September 14, 2005 -- Thanks for Your Katrina Relief Donations!

Folks who came 'round my table in the dealer room at MFM might remember a kyoote lil' ceramic kitten with Chinese characters emblazoned upon her, named "Fortune Kitty," who was taking up a collection for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.

All in all, Fortune Kitty raised $280+ -- which at a con of 601 is not too shabby! Particularly considering all the other money that was raised for various charities (Tiger Haven, Greysoul, and of course the other artists' Katrina fundraiser).

I had a few folks enquire where Fortune Kitty's funds were going to go, so I thought I'd let you know here. Laurie and I raised the total up to $600 and I then put that into a matching fund at the company where I work. So essentially, Fortune Kitty's contributions got quadrupled, for a final donation of $1,200 to the Red Cross, sent to them yesterday.

Thanks, everybody! =)

All in all, MFM was a blast. If you're ever invited to be their Guest of Honor, I highly recommend you accept! ;) (And seriously, all you MFM folks, thank you! You rule!)

July 20, 2005 -- MFM Art Preview!

Take a look at The Suburban Jungle Livejournal Community today for a little bit o' bonus art!

July 13, 2005 -- Get That Man to Memphis!

Hikaru Katayamma, Suburban Jungle colorist extraordinaire, is having a bit of a financial crunch that's interfering with his ability to get to Mephit Furmeet. I'll be pitching in, but I can't afford to handle the whole cost myself, so I'm sending out a quick call for assistance! Anything, even a buck, would be a great help! Thanks, everybody!

June 15, 2005 -- Tough Breaks Is Available!

I've finally seen a copy, and it came out great! Get it today! I'll be your friend!

May 27, 2005 -- Character Q&A Break!

Hey, all! I'm going on a short vacation out west, so from May 30 - June 10, I'll be posting responses to the Character Q&A thread! The storyline will return with Drezzer Wolf and Brody Coyote on June 13th. Enjoy!

May 4, 2005 -- Meet MammaLlamaDevil at Califur!

Come to Califur in Costa Mesa, CA May 20th-22nd! You'll be able to meet MammaLlamaDevil (the Merchandise Maven) and hang with her and Thomas K. Dye (of Newshounds fame) at the Kyrin's Lair table. We will have a few Plan 9 books and MerchandiseMaven stuff for sale (including Harry Potter style scarves, Carpe Diem shirts, and Vince Suzukawa's Muscle Cars portfolio) and of course Kyrin's artwork and magnets. (Thomas will be there Saturday, MLD will be there Saturday and Sunday.) So come by, have some candy, and support some talented folks! We are working on several interesting developments that we hope to have finished in time -- we'll keep you posted!

Monday, April 11, 2005: Suburban Jungle Celebrity Chat: Dover and Comfort!

Well, it wasn't easy to find a night where Dover wasn't either teaching or foaming lattes, but it turns out he's free this coming Saturday, April 16th, starting at 9:00 p.m. eastern and going until around 11:00 p.m. or so. So, he and Comfort will be in The Suburban Jungle Chat Room and ready to chat and schmooze and generally hang out! Remember that if you can't or don't want to use the Java applet, you can also use an IRC client to connect. Come on by and say hello to the happy newlyweds!

Monday, April 4, 2005: April Foolishness!

Mammallamadevil (the Merchandise Maven) sez...

"Take some of that tax refund money and support your favorite artists! NO shipping charges, including international orders (my choice of shipping, though) until 11:59 p.m. on April 15th, 2005. This will also apply for custom embroidery or printing orders. (You want a poster and are willing to pay for it? We'll get it to you!)
Things that have happened since FC 2005 if you've been hibernating... If you have any questions/concerns/requests/ideas, email me at kerry@surfari.net."

Thanks, MLD!

Sunday, April 3, 2005: SJ Fiction: The Special Day

I don't often write Suburban Jungle prose, but this piece came to me and demanded to be written. If you're interested to know what Dover and Comfort's newlywed life is like, check out The Special Day. It's like fanfiction, except written by The Gneech! ;)

Monday, March 28, 2005: Dance, Dance Revolu-Lion!

Bauske (probably best-known to jungloids for his award-winning Tiffany and Leonard Play in the Sand print) and I have collaborated on a fun new picture, of him kicking my sorry behind at DDR! Thanks, dude! The pic rules!

Friday, March 25, 2005: Leona Print!

Leona Sings! In case you missed the announcement in the LiveJournal community, we've finally got the Leona print in stock at Merchandise Maven! Done by special request for a big ol' Leona fan, this is one of my favorite prints yet! While you're there, check out the Watering Hole polo shirt! Folks asked for this one for years, and they finally made their debut at Further Confusion this past January. They come in all kinds of different colors, although my favorite is the gold-embroidery-on-green-shirt combination. A very nice item!

February 12, 2005 -- Open Call For Guest Art!

As you may have heard, I'm going to do a few pages for Carpe Diem #4. I also need to get Tough Breaks to Plan 9 Publishing before it's time to start working on Book #5. 0.o

To that end, Suburban Jungle is going to take a quick break from February 21 - March 5, so I'm putting out an open call for guest art, in the form of strips, drawings, whatever pleases you. :) Since we're going to be coming out of the depths of winter and moving into spring, I suggest a "Spring" or "Spring Break" theme, although other good topics include Dover and Comfort's newlywed status, or '80s retro with Tiffany and Brody. Have fun with it!

If you'd like to put in a piece, e-mail it to thegneech@gmail.com. The first piece will go up on Monday, February 21, so you've got a little over a week. Thanks, everybody!

February 1, 2005 -- SIX!

Who is Number One?

The Suburban Jungle is Number Six.

As webcomics go, that's pretty darn old!

January 31, 2005 -- Oh, Well, That Wasn't So Bad...

Forum's back up! So much for Tuesday. ;) Also, the Celebrity Chat was a big hit! Look for another one soon, maybe late February, depending on schedule conflicts. Thanks for coming, everybody! Check the forum for transcripts as they become available.

January 29, 2005 -- Forum Faw Down Go Boom

TalkAboutComics is apparently having ... er ... issues of some kind and will be down until Tuesday or so. But do not despair, Frodo! For there are many other ways to hang with the jungloids! First and foremost, there's a big ol' Celebrity Chat on Saturday Night! Second, there is the Suburban Jungle LiveJournal Community, featuring "Ask Leonard Lion!" and Tiffany's "Kitten Kaboodle Shooting Diary." Third, there is the old, somewhat neglected but still usable Keenspot Forum!

January 27, 2005 -- Suburban Jungle Celebrity Chat, SATURDAY!

Speaking of asylums, on Saturday, at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time (UTC-5, I think?), we'll be returning to an old tradition, which is the Suburban Jungle Celebrity Chat! As of this writing, the voting is divided between Leonard and Leona for the guest celebrity, but we'll get it worked out by chat time.

The Suburban Jungle Chat Room was set up by the always-amazing Mammallamadevil, and doesn't require any special client, just a web browser. The first time you go there, it will probably require you to install the Java applet (distributed by "Akiva"), but once that's done, all you need to do is pick a nickname and go! The interface is very quick and easy to learn if you've ever been in a chat before.

See you Saturday!

January 21, 2005 -- All You Need to Make An Asylum...

...is a room and the right kind of people!

To that end, I am pleased to announce suburban_jungle, the Suburban Jungle LiveJournal Community! This is a place for folks who like Suburban Jungle and any of my other projects to meet and mingle, as well as to occasionally bump into members of the cast who might pop around from time to time. On Tuesdays and Thursdays particularly, I'm going to try to make sure it gets updated with Character Q&As (sans sketches), tidbits from characters' lives, and anything else that comes to mind. Think of it as something to do on off days!

Join us!

January 5, 2004 -- Come one, come all to the first ever Suburban Jungle room party at Further Confusion!

Things are happening fast now -- the party's just over a week away! Click here for details!

December 20, 2004 -- An Avalanche of Character Q&A!

It's Christmas time again, and that means that lots of people are way too busy to be reading (and drawing!) webcomics. So I decided that this year, as an experiment I'd try running two weeks of "Character Q&A" sketches and art. From today until December 31st, I'll be taking random questions from The SJ Forum and/or the the old Keenspot forum and drawing up responses from the SJ cast. Enjoy!

December 6, 2004 -- Party Time!

Further Confusion will be host to the first ever Suburban Jungle Room Party, being organized by Mammallamadevil! The details are still being hammered out, but right now it looks like it will be on Friday night (January 14th). So if you know the way to San José, come on by!

Long Live the Milkshake Joke!

Mammallamadevil also informs me that The Milkshake Joke has been made into a print by request. If you'd like to get a copy, click here and specify that the milkshake joke is the one you want!

Updated the Commission Schedule

Are you waiting on a cameo or a commission? I've updated the commission schedule according to my most recent notes. If I owe you something and it isn't listed here, e-mail me and let me know! Also, if you're one of those people who I'm waiting on to send me input, please send it to me! I really need to clear that off!

November 19, 2004 -- Chicago Bound!

I'm off to Chicago for Midwest Furfest, and while there's a Grab Bag for tomorrow, as of this moment I don't have a strip done for Monday -- D'Oh! So don't be surprised to see a sketch Monday morning. Still, if you're in or around Chicago, come on over to the con and say "Hi!"

November 1, 2004 -- And Off We Go Again!

By popular demand, "the milkshake joke" has been rescued. :) Enjoy "San Diego Trip, Take Two!"

October 19, 2004 -- Taking a Short Break

I'm glad people were enjoying the "Death Chicken of San Diego" storyline, but I discovered to my chagrin that it was too close to another comic, which I hadn't seen. A couple of common ideas is one thing, but my core gag was so close to the other strip's core gag that it just knocked all the enthusiasm for my own story right out of me.

So I'm pulling the "El Pollo de la Muerte" strips and taking a short break to recover. I might post some sketches or something in the next week, but the strip itself is on hold until Monday, November 1st. I might try to salvage some of the better gags from the storyline later, but right now I just want to put it away and start fresh with a new idea.

October 18, 2004 -- Wedding Prints!

MammaLlamaDevil says...

I'm back in town (for at least this week) and have a new batch of STUFF...

The wedding prints hath arrived! They're on 11x17 acid-free cardstock and GORGEOUS! (If you want something LARGER, posters can be done -- email me for a quote) If you've also wanted other SJ, Bauske, or TCM prints, save shipping and order 'em at the same time! What's in stock is on the website...(grin). Remember we take credit cards now along with good ol' paypal....

Also, we have plenty of Furry shirts, Evil shirts, Carpe Diem shirts (in M and L, I MIGHT have one XL left) and WHITE TIGER TAILS. Please also note that Tiffarella and original Tiffany shirts have been reduced (limited to shirts in stock).

Have a good one!...MLD

October 4, 2004 -- Guest of Honor? ME? 0.o

On Monday, the chairman of Mephit Furmeet informed me that I've been named Guest of Honor at next year's convention! In the immortal words of Strong Bad, "Holy Crap!"

Thanks, MFM! I'll be there!

October 4, 2004 -- You Draw a Hard Line, Herbert.

Well, in response to last Friday's strip, I got quite a few e-mails that read: "That's Qapla', you petaQ!" Well I certainly don't want all the Klingons on the internet annoyed at me -- although I did learn some sneaky Batleth maneuvers at Dragon*Con, just in case. At the same time, the reason I spelled it "Kaplaa!" was to make it readable for people who don't get that whole "Capital Q 'cause it's a space language, see?" thing. ;)

So, I'm keeping it as "Kaplaa!" in the strip; however, as something of a compromise, I've spelled it correctly in the storyline dropdown. Hope that satisfies your honor! (Note to myself: Don't mention out loud that I've always thought the D7 battlecruiser looks like a surprised man wearing a hat.)

September 24, 2004 -- Give Us a Little Credit, Wouldja?

Kerry, a.k.a. MammaLlamaDevil the Merchandise Maven, says...

We've been busy little llamas at MerchandiseMavenMart, and I am now proud to say that we ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS (Amex, Visa, Mastercard) along with checks, money orders, and good ol' Paypal.

In honor of the Dover/Comfort nuptials (for the record, more males should wear lavender!) all IN STOCK Kiss the Geek printed t-shirts are available for a rock bottom $9.99USD plus shipping for this weekend ONLY (order must be placed by 11:59 pm Sunday the 26th). I have L/XL/2XL shirts available (email me about the 2XL before ordering). I also have 2 scratch and dent shirts left that I'll sell for $7.99USD plus shipping -- email me if interested as they're NOT on the website.

Also, I have plenty of t-shirts in stock now, especially Proud to be Furry and EVIL shirts along with several XL black embroidery shirts (and we can make MORE). If you missed the email in August, we now have 12 buttons instead of 11---get an entire set at the same bargain price of $9.99!

I also will be working on Homemade Wishes this weekend---you can take a look at some of GrammaLlamaDevil's and my crocheted creations for babies, adults, or somewhere in between.

September 1, 2004 -- Wensley and Ramses Lend a (Tiny) Hand!

Well, after this past weekend's embarrassing episode, our resident pear of squeakers has headed over to Fur Will Fly to lend their hands to a ring rescue effort. Check it out!

Meanwhile, more filler/fan art this week, as I'm off to Dragon*Con! Enjoy!

August 9, 2004 -- Merchandise Maven Is Back On the Air!

Unfortunately, the servers that held the SJ merchandise (and other cool schwag) site got hosed, and with them all the product reviews ... the good news is, that means there's room for you to write new ones! There's also a lot of really cool stuff up there that wasn't before, such as the "Drezzer/Falstaff: Say Cheese!" print, the Carpe Diem t-shirt, and the Class Menagerie print. Head on over and check it out!

June 29, 2004 -- Kitten Kaboodle, Animated!

Jungloid and all-around cool dude Loxley has done something very cool! Check out the new "Kitten Kaboodle, Space Ranger" animation! Thanks, Loxley!

And speaking of good news, as of this week, NeverNever is now returning to a weekly schedule, running every Tuesday and Thursday! SET CHEER = WOOHOO!

June 28, 2004 -- Marker Practice!

I figured I'd better get myself warmed back up again to working with markers and pencils for AnthroCon, so I'm taking a couple of weeks to do just that, starting today. (Basically, I decided to take my usual summer break a little early this year! But I'll swear it isn't true if you ask me.) But I'll be posting the art on the regular M-W-F schedule during that time, so there'll be updates!

Also, this week is NeverNever week! So get on over there and check it out! Just what is The Black Knight's diabolical plan? Mwuuhahaha!

Friday, June 11, 2004 - Tails, Tails, and "Kiss the Geek" Shirts!

Mammallamadevil sez...

Grandmallamadevil has been sitting at the serger and the Janome again ... here's the results!

Getta tiger by the tailI now have over a dozen of these tiger tails! They bend a bit, and are pretty sturdy. Not for Tigger bouncing mind you ... I also have one lion tail available and a few more of the other tails left.

Plus, now I have embroidered "Kiss the Geek" pocket t-shirts in almost any size! Litho was our tester on this batch, so you can ask him about their quality. ;) I still also have some 2XL left over from FC.

All are now available on merchandisemaven.com! Thanks for your support!

May 26, 2004 -- AnthroCon Badges!

Badges, badges, badges, badges, badges...To gear up for AnthroCon, I am offering six five1 custom 3"x5" laminated badges, as well as a high-resolution .TIF or .JPG file of the artwork, and a 100x100 pixel icon (LiveJournal users take note!) made from the same artwork. The cost is $20 if you want to pick it up at my dealer table at AC, or $25 if you want the badge mailed to you. There are only six five available, on a first-come, first-served basis, so either e-mail me or send me a PM via the SJ forum to put in your request soon! Payment can be done via personal check or Paypal.

1One was sold before the announcement even went up!

May 12, 2004 -- NeverNever T-Shirts!

Mammallamadevil says...

What do you want from me? I'm EVIL!

"The first time I saw the Evil button, I thought of a longtime friend of mine and said, THIS NEEDS TO BE ON A T-SHIRT. So, while in Utah on other business, I met my t-shirt vendor face to face, and they whipped up a bunch of different colors and sizes for me! If you like yellow, the evil image looks fantastic on it! (note, the t-shirt is not 4.99 -- that pertains to the Bauske print). Also on this page are some prints that I have ready for shipment...

I will not have time to put the evil shirts on the website until the weekend, so email me at kerry@surfari.net for pricing and info.

Do a good deed today---feed an artist...(grin)

MLD

March 18, 2004: Fifth Anniversary Art Challenge -- VOTE!

The entries are in, and YOU get to pick the winner!

Super-big THANK YOUs to everybody who entered, there's so much cool stuff! And an extra shout out to TK for organizing it! :)

March 23, 2004: Updated Commission Schedule.

March 9, 2004: Congratulations, Spiked Punch!

The generous and many-pierced Spiked Punch has won the "Thank You, Hikaru!" Commission. Many thanks, my good wuff friend, you rule!

March 1, 2004: "Thanks Hikaru" Commission Up For Auction!

If you can't get a pic into the Art Challenge for a commission, well, you can always buy one! I'm auctioning off a commission with all proceeds to go straight to Hikaru, as a special "thank you" for all the great work he's done coloring The Suburban Jungle. Get your character drawn, SJ style! Get a pic of Tiff, Dover, or anybody you like from the SJ cast! Get a picture of Mopsy the Pooka gone kaiju and rampaging through Tokyo if that tickles your fancy! Best of all, give Hikaru a big ol' THUMBS UP for being the great colorist he is. :)

If you don't want to participate in the commission, or get out-bid, you can also drop a little something in the Tip Jar -- all donations made this week will be tacked on to the auction winning bid and sent to Hikaru at the end. Thanks, everybody!

February 18, 2004: Fifth Anniversary Art Challenge!

IMPORTANT CHANGE! The art challenge deadline has been extended through March 15th! So you've still got time to get a piece in! Get sketching!

Suburban Jungle turns five years old this month, and to celebrate, Jungloid TKarrde98 has organized an art competition, running until March 15th. The prize for the winner will be a $5 Starbucks gift card, and a commission from yours truly, The Gneech! So ... get sketchin'. ;)

4.5 Stars for Suburban Jungle!

"Korsil Webcomic Reviews" has a nice (if abbreviated) review of SJ, here. Woohoo! =) Thanks, guys!

February 10, 2004: New Forum!

As of today, I'm migrating the role of "primary SJ forum" to the new Suburban Jungle / gneech.comics Forum at TalkAboutComics.com. I realize that this means registering for another website for some of you, but hopefully the new forum will be more stable. If not, the Keenspot Forum will still be there to act as a backup forum.

February 2, 2004: Guess Who Won the Title of IRON ARTIST at Further Confusion? Believe me, I was as surprised as anybody, but the rumors are true! I have been named "Iron Artist: Cartooning" at Further Confusion, for my balloon-animal piece, "Catching Nemo." Which means that next year, I'll have to go back out to California in the middle of January to defend my title! Oh no! ;)

In other news, my taxes are done for 2003 and get this: my cartooning, after all income and expenses were figured, I had a net loss of ~$60. This is good news in disguise -- it means that chances are next year, Suburban Jungle will probably start actually making a profit! How cool is that? :)

"Proud to be Furry" -- The Shirt! Something new that debuted at Further Confusion was the "Proud to be Furry" t-shirt! I can't tell you how much I loved seeing folks wearing these all over the con. :) Call me a sap ("You're a sap, Gneech!") but it really meant a lot to me. Thanks, everybody!

January 20, 2004 -- Open call for guest strips!

Turns out I'm not going to be able to get any strips drawn before I have to leave for Further Confusion, so I'm putting out an open call for five or six guest strips to bridge the gap 'til I get back! I'm leaving early Thursday morning, so if I don't get enough by Wednesday night, I'll just post sketches instead. If you'd like to run a guest strip, send it to thegneech at hotmail dot com. Thanks, everybody!

December 29, 2003: On Break, Back January 5th!

As detailed here, I shall be away for the next several days. So no updates this week, sorry! See you on January 5th!

Meanwhile, the Festive Art Competition Continues!

You've still got a some time to get in on "IAmMeUK's" Festive Art Competition, and this time around, I've offered up a prize of a free print of Snow Bunny Tiffany to the winner! Get on the stick, tho -- deadline for entries is December 19, which is just a week away!

November 26, 2003: Guest Strips!

Since it's Thanksgiving week and I'm going to be running about doing family stuff, Guest Artists Scott Kellogg, Lance Foxx, and Gatorman have kindly given me some very cool filler bits to put up! Thanks guys, you are awesome! The story picks up again on Monday, December 1, with Yin still in the Nut Hatchery. Enjoy!

FC 2004 is Confirmed!

I'm getting a table in the "Furry Market Place" at FC2004 ... which is kinda sorta like being in the dealer room, except not. (It'll make sense when you get there.) So come on over and say hello, buy a book or a button, make bid on the charity auction cameo, or come see me fake my way through a panel on penciling! It's fun for the whole family, and only slightly weird!

November 10, 2003: Festive Holiday Art Contest!

Wow, you guys must get as much of a kick out of these art contests as I do, 'cause you keep having 'em! Specifically, that jolly chap "IAmMeUK" has started a Festive Art Competition. He's looking for art with a "winter/Christmas" theme, so have some fun with it!

October 31: Halloween!

Today's strip is a one-two cameo of Kitana (courtesy of JadedFox, who rules utterly) and another guy whose name escapes me at the moment. ;) I hope you don't mind sharing the spotlight a bit, JF, but you'll be getting the original artwork, so you still come out ahead! ;) Thanks for your charity donation, dude!

The Forum Fanart Halloween Contest!

Inspired by Litho's Swimsuit Competition, Jungloid Tiger_T has organized a contest for anyone who wanted to create fanart based on a Halloween motif! Check out the artwork here, then go vote on your favorite here! Thanks to everyone who entered, and to Tiger_T for setting it up! You should all revel in your own coolness. :)

October 23, 2003: Orange Alert Available For Pre-Order!

The third Suburban Jungle book is in production now, and if you pre-order it, you'll get a dollar off the cover price! Orange Alert has some of SJ's biggest story arcs of the past two years, including Yin's trip to The Village, the story of Dover's years at DeMontfort (including The Class Menagerie crossover strips, never before in print!), and of course Scott Kellogg's weird and wacky Tiffarella in the 24 1/2th Century!

Order it today! I'll be your friend!

September 24, 2003: La Vida Panthera Back In Print!

SET CHEER = WOOHOO! The first Suburban Jungle book is back on the shelves and ready to go! Encompassing roughly the first year of the strip, LVP has been revamped into the new "Plan Nine Standard" size, and is back in stock after being unavailable for way too long! Get it here!

October 20, 2003: There's a Storyline Around Here Somewhere...

I got so distracted by the new computer that I completely flaked on running a Grab Bag on Saturday -- oops! Sorry. :( So today, I'm running what was going to run Saturday, namely this cool piece by Higgins Dragon, of Leonard and Glory. And since I've had a bit of difficulty getting scripts ready to go in time to draw them lately (sigh) I'm going to spend tonight sequestered at in a comfy chair at Starbucks with my notebook, a pencil, and a venti mint mocha until I get some real writing done. This is getting ridiculous!

October 17, 2003: What Have I Done???

Let's face it: I have some of the coolest friends and fans in the universe. :) Thanks to Mammalammadevil, Matt Trepal, Spiritwalker, and a dozen-plus contributors, I am now the proud owner of a super-schwanky speed demon mega-storage monster box! I'm still installing software and components, so I'm still doing updates (such as this one) on the old machine for a bit, but that'll change by the end of the weekend.

And, thanks to The Vince (he's so good, the retired the name in his honor), I have a filler image to run today since my scanner and drawing tablet are temporarily out of commission. Thanks, Vince! I've mentioned that you rule, right?

September 23, 2003: One Day Left! Strike While the Iron Is Hot!

Okay, I admit it ... the "Help Gneech Get a New Computer" Fund has not only reached but has now surpassed the $600 I was hoping for. Anything beyond this point is pure gravy! But it's very tasty gravy ... mmm, sweet, delicious monetary gravy! You're the only one who only understands me!

*cough!* Oh! Er ... did I say that aloud?

Actually, anything extra I make at this point is going to go towards buying myself a new monitor, too. So it's still a good cause, and still supports the strip! C'mon, bid on the commission ... you know you want to!

Don't make me get out the hypno-ray! ;P

PS: If you can't afford the commission, please don't bid on it! I've got enough on my conscience as it is!

September 18, 2003: Commission Available! Get It While You Can!

Rare commission available! Want your character drawn with Tiffany Tiger? Dover Cheetah? Mopsy the Pooka? Come and get it! This is the last item in the "Help Gneech Get a New Computer!" Fund. Aren't you glad? ;)

For those who are interested, the Tiffany artwork went for a final bid of $85 by Matt Trepal. Thanks, Matt! You rule!

September 17, 2003: Last Chance to Bid!

The inked, hand-colored rendering of the "Tiffany: Fun In the Sun" image auction ends tonight, so if you want a shot at it, you'd better jump in! The "Help Gneech Get a New Computer" Fund has almost reached $500 -- woohoo! The last item to go up will be an art commission, which will probably start tomorrow and run until next Wednesday. Hopefully that will be enough to reach my $600 goal!

September 11, 2003: Original Artwork For Sale!

Tiff on TowelNow up on Furbid, an inked, hand-colored rendering of the "Tiffany: Fun In the Sun" image, part of the "Help Gneech Get a New Computer!" Fund. It fills almost all of 12" x 9" sheet of bristol and is done with ink and markers. Not too shabby, if I do say so myself!

September 8, 2003: The "Help Gneech Get a New Computer!" Fund!

Okay, here's the deal: my computer was a lemon when I bought it in 2000, and neither time nor my upgrade attempts have mellowed it any. When I was trying to put together Orange Alert the crashes got so bad that I basically wasted a whole day on messing with the computer. So I'm trying to raise $600 in order to replace the machine itself, which I'm going to do in three ways.

First, is the Public Television Method: ask for donations! If you'd like to help, you can put a donation in the Tip Jar or mail a check (made out to "John Robey") to me c/o the Merchandise Maven, P.O. Box 5211, Santa Clara, CA 95056-5211. And, like public television, we have Thank You Gifts! Specifically, if you give a $50 or higher tip, you get your choice of either a Dover or Tiffany mousepad, and if you give a $100 or higher tip, you get one of these t-shirts -- 'cause let's face it, you're super-nice and I grovel in your general direction!

Second, will be auctions of original artwork, which will go up as soon as the art is finished (hopefully Wednesday or Thursday of this week). Third will be an auction of a commission -- I will draw your own character or a cariacature of yourself, with or without one of my characters, your choice. That will be available to bid on sometime in the next few weeks.

Thanks for your help, everybody! Every craftsman has to have decent tools to do their work, after all!

September 3, 2003: Litho's SJ Swimsuit Competition!

Litho, creator of ...Dream, has organized a fanart swimsuit competition on the forum! Take a look and vote for your favorite! There's some really nice stuff here. Thanks, everybody!

The Computer Is (NOT) Your Friend

Some of you may remember about a month ago, one of my computer's hard drives failed and I nearly had kittens about it. Well, I've put a few more rigorous backup procedures in place in the interim, but the fact of the matter is, I've still got to replace the thing sooner, rather than later. So next week, I'm going to start putting up auctions for the "Help Gneech Get a New Computer!" Fund. Currently planned is an inked and hand-colored original of the Tiffany Fun In the Sun image, at least one open commission, and whatever else I can think of between now and then.

In the meantime, if you'd like to help, contributions to the Tip Jar are always welcome, and of course there's always The Merchandise Maven! For that matter, if there's anything you'd really like a chance to bid on, let me know!

August 28, 2003: The page takes shape!

Welcome to the New! Improved! Suburban Jungle website! I haven't quite been able to put all the finishing touches on it that I'd like, yet -- I ran out of August too soon -- but I've got the basic structure in place, and I'll be adding features as my whacked-out schedule allows. So poke around, check it out, and let me know what you think! Also, if you find any glitches or broken links, please let me know! I won't be able to respond immediately, as I'll be off at Dragon*Con for the next few days, but I'll jump right on it as soon as I get back!

August 25, 2003: Pardon Our Dust! I am going to spend the next few days putting the new site design into operation, so if you start seeing strange mistakes or wonky images, please be patient. My intention is to have the site completely transferred over to the new design by Friday, August 29th, because that morning I will be heading to Atlanta for Dragon*Con, and I won't be back until Monday night, so if the site's going to be done in August, it needs to be done before then!

Remember, the storyline starts up again on Monday, September 1st!

August 5, 2003: Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Wiseguys! Well everybody from Uncle Kage to the Witch King of Minas Morgul has pointed out the typo about the strip being on break until September of 2004, so lest the rumor get around that SJ is going on break for a year, I've fixed the typo and am reiterating here: the strip is on break until September 1, 2003, and will return then! Harumph! ;P

August 2, 2003: Someday My Prints Will Come! Merchandise Maven MammaLlamaDevil writes: "GOOD NEWS is that we are back in the button business (thanks, BJ!) and Proud to be Furry and Kiss the Geek buttons are again available at merchandisemaven.com. I also scored a deal on Fun in the Sun and muscle study of Leonard Lion prints, so if you're interested they're $7.49 plus $5 shipping USPS (in tube form). They are original size and on 11x17 acidfree cardstock. There are a couple with bent edges -- I'll take $1 off if you want one of those and send you a digital picture of the slightly damaged merchandise."

August Is Under Construction Month! For four weeks in August, I'm going to put the strip on hold while I do a few very important things that keep being delayed:

  1. Assemble Orange Alert
  2. Redesign and clean up SuburbanJungle.com, Gneech.com, and RumblePurrLion.com
  3. Build a buffer and get ahead in scripts and strips!

Like I was speculating before, I suspect I may start doing regular summer vacations in the future, just because stuff tends to pile up when I'm Feeding The Update Beast every night. There just have to be some times when I'm not facing a strip due every other day if I'm going to be able to get anything else done.

However, just because the strip will be on hiatus, doesn't mean there won't be anything here. I'll be running commission sketches, book artwork, and if I get any guest strips or fan art, I'll definitely be running those as well. It just depends on how things go!

March 28, 2003: MerchandiseMaven.com Is On the Air! Kerry "MammaLammaDevil" O'Day, creator of the SJ t-shirts and other cool goodies, has set up an online shop where you can get SJ shirts, buttons, mousepads, and other cool loot! :) Go make her happy by ordering a ton of stuff! You'll be glad you did! ;) It's still in its shakedown period, but as more sales come in, we can expand and fill it with all kinds of cool stuff. So come on by and check it out! :)

October 28, 2002: Lots of News This Week! First of all, as you can probably tell, no site redesign. The reasons range from work to personal to technical, but suffice to say, it's been delayed yet again. Pfui!

Finally, on a sadder note, jungloid and cool guy Timber Bram passed away this past week; I would just like to post a short note of condolences to his friends, family, and loved ones. He will be missed. Please see this thread on the forums for more details.

Leona wants PIE!July 20, 2002 - New Leona Fanart! Leona Wants PIE! And who can blame her? Mmmmmmmmm ... pie! Drawn by the ever-talented James McCoy, who rules totally and utterly.

Patriotism, Of SortsJuly 5, 2002 - Bonus Sketch! To celebrate Independence Day, I drew this little sketch of Drezzer and Conrad mutually giving each other flack. Enjoy!

Heather making her moves on our mane man...July 1, 2002 - Fan Art! Yay! The very talented "Kheetor84" has sent along this terrific pic of an unusual girl by the name of Heather making moves on our mane man. If you're wondering why Leonard looks so baffled, it's because he's thinking, "That's the second biggest mouse I've ever seen!"

June 10, 2002 - The Tip Jar. I have been asked by a few supporters to establish a "tip jar," so they may show their appreciation for the strip by the very direct means of personal contributions. Until now I've been resisting the idea, on the grounds that I'd rather people bought books or commissions or such if they wanted to support the strip. But upon reflection, I decided that was a rather selfish way to behave. Not everyone may want a book, or be able to afford a commission, etc. -- and besides, it's just plain rude to say "no" to very kind people. Thus, I have established a tip jar that contribues to my Paypal account, and anyone who wishes to donate has my humble gratitude. Tips will go to pay for pens and paper, computer upgrades, convention travel and hotel stays, and so forth. Note that tips are on a purely voluntary basis, and always will be. The Suburban Jungle in not a subscription site, nor will it be. (Shameless Plug: You can subscribe to a banner-ad free version of Keenspot, however, right here!)

SET CODE=COOL TKarrde98 has created the Suburban Jungle Fan Code! Approved for use by all predator, prey, and omnivore species. Thanks, TKarrde! You rule!

March 27, 2002 - New Fanfic! Chad Hershey (a.k.a. "hbar98" on the forum) has submitted Ooh! Kitty! A Short THEM/Suburban Jungle Story for your entertainment and perusal. THEM, an intriguing-sounding but unpublished comic by a friend of Chad's, chronicles the out-of-whack adventures of some not-quite-so-super heroes, who come dimension-hopping into "The Watering Hole," when Yin isn't around. (Figures.) Enjoy!

March 23, 2002 - New Fanfic by Nekomimikun! - Nekomimikun, author of the SJ fanfic Enter, Stage Right, and creator of his own comic strip, Go For It!, has written another Ryan Tegir fanfic, this one titled The Melee of Life. What happens when scrawny Ryan agrees to work out with hunky Conrad? And is there such a thing as a goth sweatsuit? Read. Enjoy.

Love Bites - Starring Tiffany TigerFebruary 22, 2001 - Love Bites is Finally Out! Woohoo! The second SJ book is back from the printer and you can get it now! As you can probably guess, I'm mightily jazzed about that! This makes my third book of strips available -- La Vida Panthera and NeverNever: Childproof the Unicorns being the other two. Love Bites follows the story through Dover and Comfort's early dates through the end of "The Goody Awards," including the first (named) appearances of Leona Lioness and Drezzer Wolf. Get it, read it, you'll love it!

Drezzer and Leonard, discussing pantsJanuary 14, 2002 - Bonus Sketch! Just because these guys have been neglected a bit lately, here a sketch of Leonard and Drezzer, dealing with a conflict that effects them both on a very personal level...

December 19, 2001 - New Fanfic! Love In the Suburban Jungle, by Teiran. - Hot on the heels of LionkingCMSL and Level Head, Teiran follows suit with this alternate-universe version of events that weaves elements of the storyline in late 2000 into a sweet romance-that-never-was between Drezzer Wolf and Wally, the bartending kangaroo from The Watering Hole. (In case you haven't been paying attention, it's worth noting that we're talking about a couple of gay males here, so don't read this story if a male/male romance is going to bother you. There are no explicit sexual references.) Nice job, Teiran!

Drezzer in the ring!December 12, 2001 - A TON of Cool Stuff Today! We'll start the show with this very cool and timely pic from David Lazerous, of Drezzer Wolf ready to go mano a mano in a boxing ring. Nice job, Dave!

Next, uber-jungloid LionkingCMSL has written a nifty fanfic combining elements of the long-running alt.lifestyle.furry SF roleplay, Yin's Identity Crisis, and guest starring a few other furry personalities. Way cool!

December 4, 2001 - New Fanfic! Check out The Visit, by D. Keith Howington - Tiffany Tiger and Mopsy the Pooka both make sudden and unannounced visits to a jungloid's office -- neither one realizing that the other is on the way! Don't let the Continuity Cops hear about this one...

November 24, 2001 - Now THAT'S In-Depth! Message board newbie "Level Head" has posted an enormous and very comprehensive Suburban Jungle bible, making observations on everything from politics to guest artists. You go, Level Head! I must say, I'm impressed!

Kevin's About to Give Conrad a Good Boppling! by Vince SuzukawaNovember 19, 2001 - A TON of Stuff Today! First of all, Vince Suzukawa, furry artist and cartoonist par excellance, should be well known to all jungloids as the creator of The Class Menagerie. He was kind enough to draw this terrific pic for my birthday ... a boon for which the likes of me is not worthy. Thanks, Vince! You are totally awesome!

Ryan Says...Enter, Stage Right, by Nekomimikun - Yes, he's a genius ... but can he keep from alienating everyone he meets? This story introduces Ryan, a tiger with a bright future, and a dark past. And check out "Ryan Says," my illustration inspired by the story!

Drezzer and Conrad -- LookingNovember 16, 2001 - Bonus Sketch! Just a little bonus sketchie I did of Drezzer and Conrad. I don't know what's up with those guys, but for some reason, they're giving each other a "look." Also, check this space on Monday for a drawing Vince Suzukawa did for my birthday, as well as some new fanfics, fan pics, and other goodies that I've finally gotten around to putting into one place!

Don Bluth and me! How cool is that?September 21, 2001 - Dragon*Con Convention Report Up! It took me long enough, but I finally got my Dragon*Con 2001 Convention Report posted! As part of that process, I'm uploading this photo of me with Don Bluth. (In case you couldn't guess, he's the dapper and distinguished one, NOT the goofy-looking one in the hat.)

Drezzer Wolf!May 28, 2001: Another Drezzer Pic! Just because I had a few minutes to kill and a blank sheet of paper, a drawing of Drezzer just sorta appeared the other night. Enjoy!
